About The Event
Abstract: The Barnett Shale of the Fort Worth Basin was the original unconventional play that launched the United States shale gas revolution. Since initial activity in the play began, the Barnett has undergone multiple rounds of development and had millions of dollars of research conducted on it. However, has all of the potential been realized? This presentation will look at multiple facets of the Barnett Shale development in 2024, including how one operator has entered the play and leveraged techniques and ideas developed by other operators, in other basins, to find development opportunities with new wells and restimulation of old wells. The talk will cover work applying a modern stratigraphic framework to the Barnett, interpreting vintage (old) 3D seismic data from several dozen surveys, the challenges of digesting 70 years of drilling data, avoiding injection induced seismicity, and standing up a CO2 disposal well as part of the operations.
