Teaching Awards

The DGS has reached an agreement with the Ellison Miles Geotechnology Institute (EMGI) to combine the DGS Teacher of the Year Award and the EMGI Patty Holyfield Teacher of the Year Award into one award, to be given each year. The award will given to a K-12 Earth Science Teacher from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. The selection committee will be comprised of members of both groups and will make the presentation at the annual awards lunch in June. The winner will receive a cash award of $5,000 and will become the nominee from the DGS for the annual AAPG teaching award.

Funding of this award will come from the newly created Dallas Geological Society Educational Outreach Fund. As this fund grows, the DGS hopes to also provide teacher grants and support for educational outreach programs at EMGI.
